Job Description

GOAL: The OT primary responsibility shall be to provide specialized services to students identified as requiring special education services based on criteria established by applicable Federal and State statues and regulations.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Provide targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school setting

  • Adapt and modifies the environment including assistive technology and training instructional staff to meet the needs and help students function as independently as possible. 

  • Maintain student and staff confidentiality

  • Conduct screenings and evaluations of student’s ability and formulates the student’s occupational profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklist, histories, and interviews

  • Contribute to development and implementation of IEP or 504 plans through attendance and participation in team meetings

  • Interpret the evaluation data and write a comprehensive report that reflects strengths and barriers to student’s participation and occupational performance

  • Serve as a consultant to educational team regarding student’s need for modifications, and/or accommodation in school

  • Structure and maintain a therapy environment conductive to effective intervention within the constraints of school buildings

  • Assist in identifying architectural barriers within the school environment 

  • Provide safe therapeutic handling of students on floor mats or equipment including the safe transfer of students with physical disabilities

  • Provide parents with activities, procedures, and information regarding materials as appropriate to augment the child’s therapy program at school

  • Maintain clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, NH guidelines, and Board policy

  • Determines the need for occupational therapy evaluation and to select and administer appropriate assessment tools to evaluate the student.

  • Monitor student progress on a regular basis

  • Prepare written student progress reports for all students served according to Board policy

  • Maintain records for Medicaid in accordance with Board policy

  • Complete required paperwork on time

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings as required

  • Adhere to Board policies regarding emergency, safety, and health

  • Teaches, monitors, and collaborates with educational personnel, community agencies, parents and students as appropriate

  • Provides for his/her own professional growth through ongoing programs, workshops, seminars, and conferences related to OT

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Principal, Designee, or Director of Student Services


REQUIREMENTS:


  • Education: Education: MS in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college

  • Certification(s): Current Occupational Therapy licensure in the state of New Hampshire




TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


Salary, benefits, and working conditions as established by the Barrington School Board and defined in the Memorandum of Agreement contract




EVALUATON:


Performance to be evaluated in compliance with the Memorandum of Agreement and the policies and procedures established by the Barrington School Board




SUPERVISES: This position requires supervision of assigned students and monitor staff (COTA, student interns) as directed by the Director of Student Services
