Job Summary:

The Voice Systems Electronic Technician installs, tests, repairs, fire stops, and maintains unified power systems, converters (DC to AC or vice versa), battery plant, amplifiers, mixers, cable rack fabrication, spacing and installation, radio antenna and grounding, build and installs cable harnesses. Applications may include analog, digital, and/or video circuits and logic systems. The Electronic Technician will normally be assigned to areas such as development, engineering, test equipment, system checkout, fabrication, and the like. The chosen candidate will work on all voice systems at Kennedy Space Center, including OIS-M, OIS-Q2, PAWS, and Radios.

This is a represented staff position with the IBEW Union.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs technical functions supporting engineering activities.
  • Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems, works from documentation, written or verbal instructions, schematics, rough sketches, diagrams, layouts, and plans, often requiring interpretation and application of comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of electronic theory and principles.
  • Conducts testing in a development mode and determines methods or actions to correct malfunctions or design problems.
  • Recommends modifications to engineering designs as necessary.
  • May assist in the design, construction, test, and checkout of test equipment.
  • Using steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, wood, and plywood stock, fabricate custom support equipment for use in installing voice and data systems.
  • Install, remove, control, and replace serial digital closed-circuit surveillance television and webcams systems in support of spacecraft, payload, and security operations.
  • Install setup and operate video equipment and portable sound reinforcement.
  • Perform software upgrades on sustaining systems.
  • Install and maintain hand held, fixed and mobile radio frequency (RF) radios.
