LIST OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES:

  • The Shipping Clerk records shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting and recordkeeping purposes.
  • The Shipping Clerk compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • The Shipping Clerk examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
  • The Shipping Clerk routes items to departments.
  • The Shipping Clerk examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • The Shipping Clerk requisitions and stores shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
  • The Shipping Clerk maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.

SKILLS/ POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires organized individual who can maintain delivery schedule so that customers are satisfied and production remains on schedule.
  • Must have good communication skills in order to make arrangements with customers, carriers, paper mills and members of Duro management.
  • Should have good math skills in order to negotiate rates and keep track of all shipments.
  • Should have familiarity with computers.
  • Should take approximately one year to learn basic components of position.
  • Computer literate Microsoft Office
  • Basic Mathematical Skills
  • Analytical and attention to detail.
  • Bilingual Preferred

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma/GED, Associates Degree or Three to five years’ experience in related field.

 

SUPERVISION:

Employee has no supervisory duties and must be supervised by upper management.

 

WHAT MACHINES OR TOOLS ARE USED:

Computer/CRT, printers, calculator, fax, copier, telephone, word processor.

 

WORKING EBVURIBNEBT:

Will be exposed to Computer Monitor, heat/cold, and noise due to factory setting and phone ringers. 

 

WHAT MAY RESULT FROM COMMON ERRORS IN THIS POSITION:

Errors may occur in preparing appointment times or shipping instructions, maintaining accurate information, communicating with customers or other employees, or other areas of traffic.  Errors, if not caught, may result in late or erroneous shipments, inaccurate paperwork, dissatisfied customers, loss of customers, or excessive freight costs, loss of business. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to Lift and carry at minimum 25lb

Must be able to Carry, Reach over shoulder, Sit for long periods of time, ability to work at a rapid pace

 

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) REQUIRED:

Safety Steel Shoes (if frequently going onto the production or warehouse areas)
