Job Description
Summary

The ESS Technician/Locksmith supports NASA’s Fairmont facility by maintaining multiple facility systems and handling all lock-and-key operations. Duties include installing and repairing mechanical/electronic locks, managing key control, performing emergency openings, changing safe combinations, issuing keys and padlocks, and maintaining accurate work order records.

 

This posting is in anticipation of a future position. 


Responsibilities

  • Process key requests, verify authorization, prepare documentation, and distribute keys per established procedures.
  • Maintain accountability of all master keys and assist with key audits and lost‑key incident reviews.
  • Install, service, and coordinate removal of locks and safes, including changing combinations for safes and vaults.
  • Provide locksmith support for critical assets, including lunar and planetary sample areas.
  • Advise maintenance, engineering, operations, and security personnel on locking devices and keying materials.
  • Maintain shop tools, equipment, and an inventory of spare parts for locksmith and security‑system work.
  • Support, repair, and maintain intrusion detection and CCTV systems.
  • Follow all safety, personnel, and departmental policies while completing assigned duties.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Top Secret Clearance needed (not required to start).
  • Ability to obtain Locksmith Certification and Safe & Vault Technician/Inspector Certification within predetermined time post-appointment.
  • LENEL OnGuard Core and OnGuard Professional certifications (or ability to obtain).
  • Knowledge of Physical Access Control Systems, including access‑level management, PACS programming, reporting, and video system administration
  • Experience with repair, installation, and maintenance of electronic equipment, circuit boards, processors, chips, and related hardware/software.
  • Understanding of telecommunications system operation, switching, control, and transmission.
  • Completion of required NASA SATERN training, including annual IT security.
