    ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

    Position Title:  Assistant Cook
    Department/Building:  Brainerd High School (High Volume Site)
    Reports to: Director of Nutrition Services
    Assignment: 2025-2026 School Year
    Hours: 6.5 per day, Monday through Friday
    Salary Range:  $ 13.52 -18.36 (Based on certification and experience; wages outlined in the Food Services Contract located on district website)
    Union:  Education Minnesota Brainerd
    FLSA:  Non-Exempt

    JOB SUMMARY: 
    Assist in preparing food, serving lines, cafeteria/kitchen clean up, and point of sale.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Assists in preparing the entrees, such as assembling food items and measuring ingredients according to standardized recipes and proper preparation instructions.
    • Assists in serving lunches to students and staff, including setting up serving line (i.e., milk, utensils, supplies), arranging food attractively, dishing up the proper food portions, and ensuring correct food temperatures.
    • Performs cafeteria clean up activities, including setting up and operating the dishwasher to clean dirty dishes, utensils, pots and pans; putting away dishes, utensils, pans, napkins, supplies, etc.; collecting trays and assisting in the tray room; and wiping off tables/counters and sanitizing food service equipment.
    • Fills in for other cafeteria employees (i.e., head cook, baker, salad bar) to cover breaks and absences.
    • Performs related work as apparent or assigned by manager.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Excellent Customer Service
    • Working knowledge of material, methods, and equipment used in preparing foods on a large scale. Completed coursework, preferred.
    • Ability to prepare food on a large scale
    • Working knowledge of food values and nutrition
    • Working knowledge of health and safety principles
    • Ability to work harmoniously with fellow staff
    • Ability to accept responsibilities as assigned 

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to climb up and down on a short step-ladder or stool.
    • Ability to lift cases of food weighing from up to 50 pounds.
    • Lift and organize grocery order in the cooler/freezer with help from custodial staff if assistance is needed.
