General Function:

Support students who are enrolled in summer school/programs.

Education/Training/Experience

(Basic minimum requirements are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District.)

Minimum: New Mexico Public Education Department School Counselor License.

Preferred: Experience in counseling in a secondary education setting. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities: 

Ability to exercise effective communication and interpersonal skills with diverse populations, both in-person, on the telephone, and the computer (email, etc.). Must be flexible and have excellent organizational skills. Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively use technology to compile and present data, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from community groups, staff, and the general public.

Essential Job Functions

All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, and facility and computer security policies and procedures.  Functions are subject to change occasionally to meet the organization's needs. Current essential functions include the following:

 

1.      Adhere to school and district policies.

2.      Collaborate with site administrators, teachers, and the registrar to ensure that appropriate credits earned are reflected on students’ transcripts.

3.      Review student transcripts to monitor progress toward graduation and identify necessary credit recovery.

4.      Provide socio-emotional support to students as needed.

5.      Establish a safe, welcoming environment focusing on student growth and socio-emotional well-being.

6.      Maintain open communication with students, families, and school staff.

7.      Maintain accurate and current records.

8.      Additional duties as assigned.

Salary Range:

$47.61 per hour

Resources Used in Performing the Job Include (but are not limited to): 

Standard office equipment and software platforms such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Google Suite. Telephone, fax, copier, computer, calculator.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements: 

You are regularly required to stand and move throughout a room and/or facility. You communicate verbally and electronically. You use your hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with your hands and arms. You are frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. You are occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and drive. You may have occasion to perform heavy lifting of up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions: 

Work is performed in a school office setting, with exposure to a Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.,

3.      Begins and completes work within the allotted time

4.      Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment

5.      Demonstrates skill in using equipment, including its capabilities, limitations, and appropriate/particular application.

6.      Protects the District’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment

7.      Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury
