Job Description

Title: Design Trainer

Department: Design

FSLA Status: Exempt 

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Reports to: Vice President of Design 

 

Summary


The Design Trainer develops, documents, and delivers design-specific training for the COR Design department. This role partners with the Design Technical Specialist to ensure designers have the software, product, and process knowledge needed to perform effectively. The Design Trainer also mentors designers and supports ongoing skill development across the team.


Specific Tasks: Deliver training on products, COR processes, software, and other job-related topics.

  • Assess training needs and administer training for new and existing designers when products, processes, or technology change.
  • Create and manage training plans for new hires, including:
    • Curating Omni and other online courses into an onboarding schedule.
    • Organizing materials and logistics for instructor-led, in-house trainings.
    • Maintaining the New Hire Onboarding Teams channel.
  • Work with Human Resources for onboarding schedule & checklist
  • Partner with manufacturers and internal stakeholders to develop and implement training for new products and technology.
  • Provide 1:1 coaching for designers who need supplemental support, including those on performance improvement plans.
  • Facilitate recurring trainings (e.g., Workshop Wednesday).
  • Track and ensure completion of required manufacturer training for new hires and existing designers.
  • Maintain team training documentation and tools, including the Skills Matrix and Design Manual; add and update content as needed.
  • Contribute to process development and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provide regular updates to Design Leadership, including a weekly written progress report on new hires and mentees.
  • Stay current through virtual manufacturer and software learning opportunities and occasional in-person events; share relevant opportunities with the team.
  • Identify best practices for training content development and delivery.
  • Support special events, presentations, and project work as needed.
  • Contributes to related tasks and initiatives as required to meet organizational goals

 

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including live presentations.
  • 5+ years of experience drawing and specifying contract furnishings in CET or CAP.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, CET, CAP Designer, CAP Worksheet, and Microsoft Office.
  • High attention to detail and strong technical proficiency.
  • Knowledge of building, accessibility, and life safety codes.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities in a high-volume environment.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and team-focused.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.

  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers

Work Environment

  • Work performed in a fast-paced office environment daily, with visits to various sites, including warehouses, construction sites, client sites, and offices
