TITLE: Assistant Senior High School Principal
REPORTS TO: Principal
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License, General Administrative

CLASSIFICATION: Administrative
WORK YEAR: 221 Days
SALARY: Commensurate with experience

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
1. Comprehensive organization, activities, goals and objectives of a District Senior High School.
2. School law administration and applicable sections of the State Education Code and other
applicable laws.
3. State and local curriculum requirements.
4. Board and District policies, procedures and regulations.
5. Labor relations law and employee contracts.
6. State plant facility requirements.
7. Budget preparation and control.
8. Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training.

ABILITY TO:
1. Organize, coordinate and administer overall assigned programs and activities at the school.
2. Assist the Principal with administrative duties involving student conduct, curriculum development
and school plant operations as assigned.
3. Organize, direct, evaluate and supervise assigned certificated and classified staff.
4. Direct activities regarding personnel, the physical plant, budget, student services and activities,
curriculum and instruction, and communications and articulation.
5. Train, supervise and evaluate certificated and classified personnel.
6. Plan and direct the budget and business operations of the school.
7. Establish, coordinate and maintain communication with community and parent groups.
8. Plan, implement, direct and evaluate instructional and categorical programs in accordance with
applicable laws.
9. Plan and organize work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The primary responsibility is in the improvement of instruction and a majority of time shall be
spent on curriculum and staff development.

2. Serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal.
3. Direct special programs such as summer school as assigned.
4. Organize and direct the daily operation of a senior high school.
5. Plan, organize, coordinate and participate in programs and activities related to overall high school
function; enforce applicable State and District codes, policies and laws; administer District and
school site discipline policies and safety programs.
6. Perform a variety of administrative duties to assist the Principal in managing the high school.
7. Supervise and evaluate the performance of designated certificated and classified personnel; assign
duties to faculty and staff as appropriate to meet school objectives; assist with recruiting,
interviewing and selecting new faculty and staff.
8. Develop and administer disciplinary procedures in accordance with District policies; confer with
students, parents, teachers and community agencies; respond to and resolve parent, student and
staff complaints; suspend or recommend expulsion of students as appropriate; attend expulsion
hearings as needed.
9. Establish, coordinate and maintain communication with community and parent groups; attend a
variety of meetings and events to represent the high school; develop correspondence, publicity and
other public relations medium to promote school activities, special events and achievements.
10. Implement, revise and supervise instructional and other special programs; assure that curricular
requirements are properly integrated and coordinated.
11. Provide direction to a variety of faculty, staff and student programs and services.
12. Provide direction to the school's guidance and counseling services, student activities, school
attendance issues, plant maintenance and cafeteria programs; assure programs and services meet
established objectives and requirements.
13. Assist deans and other staff members in student discipline issues.
14. Analyze and interpret test data to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs and testing
processes; direct and participate in the collection, compilation and recording of required data.
15. Supervise during and after school, student activities and athletic programs, as assigned; attend a
variety of school events including athletic events, dances, meetings and others.
16. Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of District, County, State and federally-
mandated records and reports regarding student attendance, discipline, attendance, test scores,
cumulative records and academic achievement; operate a personal computer and typewriter to
prepare and maintain correspondence, records and reports.
17. Require faculty and other employees to observe District property and District activities for correct
safety procedures, to require correction of any unsafe conditions and practices and to report all
other potential hazards.
18. Certified in CPI and keeps the certification updated.
19. Work with faculty, and other employees to develop and maintain a program of safe conditions and
procedures of the welfare of the students, faculty and other employees.
