- Directs crew personnel in the proper clearing and trimming of the system's right of way and other tree trimming and cutting, as assigned.
- Responsible for scheduling and organizing work assignments, as well as inspecting completed work to ensure quality and adherence to specifications
- Supervise and assist in semi-complex manual labor tasks related to tree trimming
- Ensures assigned work is completed in accordance with procedures
- Ensures assigned work is completed within time schedules
- Ensures all crew personnel perform work in accordance with safety procedures
- Effectively performs duties of other crew personnel as required
- Proficiency in operating the bucket truck and all power cutting equipment
- Directs crew personnel in the proper operation of the bucket truck, chipper and other forestry equipment as required
- Ensures that all assigned vehicles and equipment are operated and maintained in accordance with safety procedures, operators manual and state laws
- Report any unusual job condition to immediate supervisor
- Ensures that daily timesheets are completed correctly and in a timely manner
- Ensures that any complaint which cannot be resolved within authority is routed to proper personnel immediately
- Identifies staff training needs and recommends training sources
- Analyzes daily workload and schedules
- Ensures fair and consistent treatment of department employees
- Actively supports the efforts and intent of equal employment opportunity
- Supervises and assists in pruning, topping, tree removal, land clearing, bracing, feeding and transplanting
- Operates saws and spraying equipment
- Train and mentor new team members
- Perform other routine manual labor
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience is required
- Knowledge of principles and practices of tree trimming
- Knowledge of safety precautions associated with tree trimming
- Skilled in the use of multiple pieces of equipment including power saws, hand saws and power sprayers
- Ability to climb trees and work in high places
- First Aid Certification is required
- Must be able to pass drug, alcohol and background checks
- Able and willing to travel long distances on short notice
- Able and willing to work for extended periods in various locations
- Able and willing to work in all types of weather environments including inclement weather
- Basic knowledge of electrical operations and hazards related to electricity
- Basic knowledge of fist aid
- Valid Driver's license
- Able and willing to work overtime when required
- Understanding of the utility industry and operations
