Job Description

The Rappahannock Regional Jail is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform semiskilled work installing, repairing, and maintaining structures in the Jail buildings and facilities and related work as apparent or assigned.

 

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs repairs, minor modifications, and construction work in electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, or related fields.


  • Repairs and maintains electrical systems and components; repairs and/or replaces locks, locking mechanisms, doors, door hardware, door sensors, etc.


  • Performs preventive maintenance and service on HVAC and other mechanical and electrical systems; inspects fire extinguishers, air conditioning filters, motors, belts, etc.; troubleshoots potential problems and conducts repairs as needed.


  • Performs minor plumbing repairs; unstops sinks, toilets, drains, etc.; welds and brazes fixtures as required.


  • Performs a variety of housekeeping duties as needed or required.


  • Paints interior and exterior building fixtures.


  • Escorts vendors and contract service maintenance personnel through the facility.


  • Prepares and maintains logs and reports on work performed; inventories equipment and supplies.

 


Education/Experience: 

  • High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in building maintenance and repair work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Special Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This position is an essential position and on-calls are required.


 

Applicant must pass a criminal background, Drug Test, DMV check and polygraph examination.
