Description

POSITION TITLE: Graduate Assistant – Language Lab

DEPARTMENT: Office of Student Success

SUPERVISOR: Director of Student Success

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Language Support Lab (LSL) Graduate Assistant will work with supporting and overseeing the Language Lab and Writing Centers (WC) at CU. This individual will report to the Director of Student Success.

 

General

  • Assist with allocating and assigning tutors to CU students (located on spreadsheet)
  • Assist with maintenance of database of tutors
  • Must be available via phone/email for students who are looking for tutors
  • Organize and assist with payroll matters
  • Assist with coordinating tutoring and communication with tutors
  • Be available to visit tutoring labs in the evening at least monthly

 

Testing

  • In charge of assisting with test proctoring at CU.
  • Keep an up-to-date testing schedule (located in Excel), ensuring everything is in order (testing times etc.)
  • Be available via phone/email for students and other individuals who are looking to schedule tests

 

LSL & WC Labs

  • Create, maintain and coordinate scheduling for LSL and WC Labs.
  • Coordinate speaking regarding labs with classroom subjects content area faculty.
  • Be available to work in both LSL and WC Labs if necessary.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Student Life to aid with supporting the students who are struggling with English as a second language (ESL).
  • Research providing support for ESL students.
  • Create a training regarding techniques to help support language acquisition for English as a second language students.
  • Provide training to all CU tutors regarding working with ESL students.
  • Make the training available for coaches and coaching staff as a support to our athletes.
  • Provide the ESL acquisition training to the Office of Student Success as well as the Office of Student Services for Academic Coaches. 
  • Work with the Director of Student Success to aid with the hiring of Language Support Tutors.
  • Work in the OSS office to support the program while also working within the Language Support Lab to provide direct services to ESL students and aid with providing training and support for the tutors.

 

 

Other Duties

  • Special events planning and coordination
  • Reload paper, maintain, and troubleshoot printer in the LCC
  • Serve as support for FSL Freshman Course
  • Market services of the Office of Student Success to students, faculty, and staff
  • Contact students at risk
  • May be required to complete front-desk time if nobody is available
  • Any other duties that the Director has assigned will be completed by the GA
  • Assist other Academic Support Center Offices

 

Hours

  • Required 20 hours a week minimum for term of graduate program
  • GA candidates must have flexible hours

 

Remuneration

  • Full tuition waiver (no stipend, books or fees)
