POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Operations Manager – Tours supports the Operations Manager in leading the day-to-day activities of Kualoa Ranch’s Tours Department, which currently encompasses the Jurassic Adventure Tour, Movie Sites & Ranch Tour, Kualoa Grown Tour, and Jungle Expedition Tour. This position helps oversee team coordination, tour readiness, and the overall guest experience while ensuring consistency, safety, and efficiency across all guided experiences.

 

The Assistant Manager serves as a key connector between management and front-line staff embodying Kualoa’s values in daily operations and contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of Kualoa’s tour offerings as they continue to grow and evolve.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Team Support

  • Support the Operations Manager in supervising and motivating tour leads, guides, and drivers.
  • Reinforce positive communication, fairness, and accountability across the team.
  • Serve as the acting Manager in the Operations Manager’s absence.
  • Provide coaching and support for staff performance, guest engagement, and safety practices.

Operations & Guest Experience

  • Monitor daily tour flow, ensuring schedules, equipment, and routes are running smoothly.
  • Conduct field checks on tour sites, vehicles, and set areas to ensure readiness.
  • Troubleshoot issues promptly to minimize disruption to guests and staff.
  • Support training and quality control across multiple tour types and evolving experiences.

Safety & Compliance

  • Lead pre-shift safety briefings and assist in field audits.
  • Reinforce team understanding and adherence to safety and operational policies.
  • Document and report incidents, near-misses, or hazards appropriately.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Coordinate with other Operations Managers, Facilities, Fleet, and Marketing teams.
  • Assist with planning and logistics for special tours, VIP guests, or partner programs.
  • Communicate updates effectively between staff, management, and other departments.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with scheduling, payroll verification, and team records.
  • Support preparation of reports and data tracking for guest counts, safety, and staff performance.
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvements as tour operations expand.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of progressive leadership or supervisory experience, preferably in operations, hospitality, tourism, recreation, logistics, or related team environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and support others, balancing performance, safety, and morale.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
  • Organizational and multitasking ability in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Commitment to safety, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Valid Hawaiʻi driver’s license and clean driving record required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in outdoor environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform maintenance or equipment checks on tour trucks as needed.
