About the Department
This is a substitute position. Hours may vary per week from 5 to 15 depending on library need and employee availability.
This position performs customer service duties in support of assigned library functions.
Compensation: $15.91/hour
Position Duties
- Assists library patrons at the circulation desk; issues or renews memberships; checks books in and out; collects overdue fines; provides information and direction.
- Shelves books; straightens and organizes shelves.
- Assists with special projects as assigned.
- Maintains and updates newspaper and periodical displays.
- Reviews shelves to maintain neatness and order.
- Prepares a variety of library displays.
- Contacts patrons in regards to overdue fines.
- Assists in maintaining a neat and tidy library.
- Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- A minimum of one year of library-related clerical experience, or any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

- Knowledge library policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the library computer system.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in interpersonal and public relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
