    Position Purpose
    Under the general supervision of the Elementary School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
     

    Essential Functions
     
    • Administers the approved curriculum by creating age appropriate lesson plans and learning activities that reflect a biblical worldview that can be reviewed by the principal or the principal’s designee.
    • Promotes a classroom environment that is conducive to teaching and learning and meets the varying academic, spiritual, and social needs of all students.
    • Creates lesson plans that maximizes learning time and differentiates based on skill level and learning styles.
    • Shepherds students in their acquisition and understanding of scripture and encourages a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
    • Promotes a covenental partnership with parents by consistent communication, specific feedback, and by invitation to various learning opportunities and celebrations.
    • Establishes clear and attainable behavior expectations that support a safe and robust learning environment.
    • Communicates regularly with parents and students about academic progress via parent conferences, through written communication such as emails, Veracross, checklists, etc, and by providing timely grading and feedback.
    • Collaborates and coordinates with colleagues, especially within a grade-level or department, to maintain accountability for academic planning and pacing, as well as to review regular assessment data in order to provide continuous improvement.
    • Coordinates and delegates tasks to Teaching Assistants as appropriate in order to enhance the learning environment.
    • Reviews, selects, and requisitions instructional materials through established protocols.
    • Provides for the supervision of students assigned to their classroom and participates in or coordinates the supervision of students at large before and after school, during field trips, safety drills, and school wide events as assigned by the administration.
    • Administers standardized tests with fidelity and integrity in accordance with the school’s assessment protocol and participates in the data analysis of those results in order to provide appropriate instruction and feedback.
    • Attends faculty meetings, staff devotions, and professional development opportunities  to continue growing professionally and spiritually.
    • Understands and follows school policy as described in the Teacher handbook in areas such as maintaining a timely and accurate grade book, communication with parents, request for leave, dress code, mandated reporting, etc.

    • Has a strong understanding of instructional strategies in the 5 areas of Reading and Math.
    • Understands the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development process of children.
    • Is proficient in using technology as a tool for management and instruction.
    • Displays the ability to combine individual content area skills/concepts in order to enhance student understanding of overall content.

    Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
    • Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
    • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
    • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
    • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

    Qualifications Profile
    • Georgia State Certification as an Elementary Teacher
    • ASCI certification preferred

    Education
    • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
    • Masters Degree in related area preferred.

    Experience
    Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.
