Academic Tutor, General

Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Category 4 

 

Reports to: Director of the OC Learning Center

Classification: Academic school year, part-time

Qualifications/Requisites

Starting Salary $25 per hour. Part-time Position. Bachelors and/or Master’s Degree preferred. Highly-motivated individuals who have a strong math, science, history or English background preferred. Must possess excellent project management skills, strong writing, ability, strong verbal communication, outgoing, friendly personality, strong computer capabilities, ability to work with others in a group as well as independently, strong organizational skills, multi-tasking ability, flexibility and adaptability.

General

Oaks Christian is seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals to assist in the Learning Center Academic Support Programs. These individuals will work directly with the Director of the OC Learning Center to help train and tutor students in various subjects during the school day. Tutors will also partner with the academic deans, the director of the academic success program, and teachers to assist high school and middle school students. Individual tutoring appointments may also be scheduled.  Individuals hired will be paid on an hourly basis.

Primary Duties

  • Demonstrate mastery in one or more subject matter areas
  • Teach organizational skills, including how to use planner and prioritize assignments.
  • Teach efficient study skills, including note-taking skills, flash-cards, study guides, review with teachers
  • Connect students with their teachers during office hours
  • Teach time management and best use of “open” periods
  • Provide accountability to turning in assignments consistently
  • Communicate bi-weekly with parents
  • Report plan for improvement to parents (grades C or below)
  • Partner with teachers
  • Attend teacher mentoring sessions and summits as scheduled
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.  Employer reserves the right to change or modify duties at any time.
