    J O B    D E S C R I P T I O N

     
    Position Title:   Certified Classroom Teacher
    Department:      Building
    Reports To:       Building Principal
     
    SUMMARY:  Creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students, the Classroom Instructor must work closely with other staff, the administration, and other programs of East Otero School District R-1.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.
    Duties and responsibilities may include:

    • Facilitate the personal, social and intellectual development of students.
    • Plan and implement effective lessons, using time, materials and resources effectively.
    • Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
    • Display a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
    • Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
    • Set high Expectations for student achievement and behavior.
    • Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
    • Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
    • Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
    • Coordinate and supervise field trips.
    • Assist with the activities of student organizations.
    • Attend and assist when necessary with school events such as musical programs, athletics, student recognition ceremonies, graduation, and open house.
    • Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
    • Obtain advance approval of the Principal for all activities and expenditures.
    • Communicate and work effectively with members of the school district, community, and community organizations.
    • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
    • Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Supervise students in classroom, campus, and activities.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.A Bachelors Degree from an accredited college/university is required.A Colorado Teaching License/Certificate must be on file in the Administration Office.Must possess a desire to continue career improvement.
     
    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Language skills required for this job may include:

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or visitors to the district.

     
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Mathematical skills required at all levels include:

    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

     
    REASONING ABILITY 
    Reasoning ability may include:

    • Ability to solve practical problems and involving several variables in various situations.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and/or diagram form.

     
    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
    Other skills and abilities essential and required for this job may include:

    • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.
    • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

    • A ten-month school year contract, for either full-time or part-time employment, based on job need.
    • Salary and fringe benefits to be determined by the Board of Education as indicated on the adopted Certified Teacher Salary Schedule.
    • An annual performance evaluation to be completed by the building principal.
