Overview

Conducts all relevant analyses, QA reports, maintenance, controls and routine upkeep for all Point of Care Testing and instrumentation.  Follows all established standards and practices set forth by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Department of Respiratory Care Divisions as per JCAHO, CAP and New York State Department of Health Regulation.


Responsibilities

  • Assists Point of Care testing personnel with maintenance of supplies and equipment for each system as per the manufacturers recommendations and all JCAHO, CAP and NYSDOH guidelines.
  • Establishes and maintains a quality assurance program, including but not limited to linearity, correlation, precision and accuracy studies, and routine protocol for all POC   testing equipment and assays in conjunction with the lab supervisor or designee.
  • Assists POC testing personnel in maintaining, troubleshooting and facilitation repairs of systems as necessary and replaces all equipment if not repairable
  • Maintains documentation for all quality assurance processed; keeps records as per JCAHO, CAP and NYSDOH requirements.  Maintain all Logs (daily, weekly and  monthly) as indicated by the policy and procedure for each POC test licensed in the institution.
  • Maintains instrument printouts and computerized printouts as specified by JCAHO, CAP and/or NYS.  Responsible for downloading information from POC systems to computer database, as applicable.
  • Documents QC failures and corrective action to Lab Supervisor or designee.  Reports significant issues to supervisor or designee immediately; prepares monthly QA reports for supervisory review.
  • Responsible for coordination of in service training for current and new employees using POC testing as required by JCAHO, CAP and/or NYS.
  • Remains current with all existing laws, regulations and guidelines as per Laboratory and Respiratory Care policy and procedures.
  • Acts as liaison with other departments who are utilizing POC testing throughout the                           institution(e.g. Emergency Department, Nursing etc.); keeps them informed of         regulatory changes, proficiency test dates, results and provides documentation of            corrective action as required by JCAHO, CAP &/or NYS.
  • Assists the supervisor during inspections by accreditation agencies(JCAHO,CAP and NYS).
  • Maintains all Safety, Environmental and Infection Control Standards and Records.
  • Prepares bills-of-materials to order replacement parts as necessary and in a timely manner to avoid prolonged shutdown of equipment or systems.
  • Obtains replacement parts and turns in unserviceable parts, adhering to departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor of Science Degree required.

Experience:

4 years of full time experience as a Clinical Lab Technologist required.

 

Skills:

Basic data entry skills preferred.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Good interpersonal skills.

Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position; knowledge of a second language preferred.

Pay Range

USD $57.92 - USD $58.45 /Hr.
