Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant and Reporting Specialist provides support for the analysis, planning, scheduling, and coordination of accounting and administrative duties to ensure timely completion of general accounting, monthly reconciliation, budgeting, and financial reporting. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, financial compliance with debt and equity agreements, and the support of budget and forecast activities.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform daily accounting tasks, including posting journal entries, preparing account analyses and reconciliations, and ensuring the accurate and timely issuance of billing invoices and other requirements as stipulated by Tenaska Inc.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date financial statements—including balance sheets, income statements, members’ equity statements, and cash flow statements—for multiple operating companies.
- Coordinate, prepare, and submit necessary compliance certificates as well as quarterly and annual financial statements. Respond to inquiries from financial institutions or rating agencies, including S&P and Moody’s, regarding outstanding debt obligations and working capital credit facilities.
- Perform budget-to-actual variance analyses on a monthly, quarterly, and annual schedule. Develop and present detailed reports of budget-to-actual variances for senior management evaluation.
- Develop comprehensive budget and reforecast projections utilizing budgeting software and Excel, collaborating closely with department heads and senior management throughout the process.
- Compile and distribute the monthly customer billing, monitor and ensure timely collection of customer receivables.
- Maintain company financial records in accordance with established policies and United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). Oversee monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and related documentation to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with all levels throughout the organization.
- Establish priorities to meet deadlines and goals within the timelines established by management.
- Assist with development of system controls for fraud prevention and ensuring data integrity.
- Oversight to ensure accurate and timely payment processing.
- Predictable, reliable and dependable attendance is a requirement of the position.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 5+ years’ experience
Preferred Requirements:
- CPA a plus / prior work experience in public accounting also preferred
- Strong understanding of financial and operational controls
- Strong attention to details and accuracy
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are all required
- Knowledge and prior experience with the use of general ledger systems and procedures, preferably Microsoft Great Plains / Business Central software
