We are seeking a Music Teacher to provide specialized activities in Music for students with disabilities.

 

Our Victory Learning Center Programs offers specialized educational services for students who are diagnosed with Autism or a Cognitive Disability paired with a mental health diagnosis.  There are two separate sites conveniently located in Lackawanna, NY, with a third site opening in September 2026! Our schools service students ages 5-21, who are residentially placed or are referred through their local school district's Committee on Special Education.

Job Summary: 

 

Victory Learning Center will include working with students, 5 – 21 years old that are typically diagnosed on the Autism spectrum with mental health concerns and developmental or intellectual disabilities The Music Teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with Autism, Intellectual Disability, and/or mental illness in a variety of educational settings.  The person in this position is responsible for creating flexible program and learnings environment that provides specialized activities in Music for students with disabilities.

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provides an educational climate that encompasses success, independence, a productive atmosphere, and provides students with encouragement, safety and stimulation.
  • Completes weekly lesson plans based on a developmentally appropriate curriculum which follows the New York State Educational Department Learning Standards.
  • Prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of the students.
  • Demonstrate adequate knowledge of: subject matter- Music, ability to think critically, and individualize instruction.
  • Implement Classroom Behavior Management Plan (Tier 1) and any student specific Tier 2 or Tier 3 Interventions.
  • Act as a team leader of classroom staff including assistants, therapists and social workers.
  • Communicate effectively with parents (through notebooks, phone calls, conferences, district meetings, communication app, etc.)
  • Complete quarterly progress reports on all students that are distributed to parents and the school districts.
  • Maintain student confidentiality within HIPPA/FERPA and agency guidelines.
  • Any other duties assigned by supervisor

 

Skills:

Minimum Education Required:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree 

 

Experience:

  • 1-2 years teaching experience
  • 1-2 years working with individuals with Autism, Intellectual Disability, and/or mental health involvement. (Preferred)

 

 

Required License/Registration/ Certification

Initial NYS Teacher Certification in Music Education

 

Training Requirements: 

  • Continuing education as per NYS Office of Profession guidelines
  • All required agency trainings (including Applied Behavior Analysis, SCIP-R)
  • All trainings required by programs in which you service individuals

 

Physical Requirements:

The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions.

  • The frequent physical demands of the position are standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.
