Job Description

Description

The Aquatics and Recreation Director oversee the strategic, operational, and programmatic aspects of both departments. This leader fosters a safe, welcoming environment and ensures high-quality experiences aligned with YMCA values and community needs.

Aquatics and Recreation Director:

  • Provides strategic direction and leadership for aquatics and recreation programs for youth, adults, and families. Designs, develops, and expands offerings that meet community needs and align with the YMCA’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates program staff and volunteers. Fosters a positive and inclusive team culture focused on safety, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Serves as a community leader by building and maintaining strong partnerships with local schools, agencies, and organizations to enhance program reach and impact.
  • Ensures all programs operate in accordance with YMCA policies and all applicable health and safety regulations. Oversees staff certifications and provides ongoing training in areas such as CPR, First Aid, and lifeguarding.
  • Manages the scheduling and use of aquatic and athletic facilities. Oversees maintenance, equipment needs, and ensures facilities provide a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Develops and monitors program budgets to meet financial targets. Collects and analyzes data to assess program effectiveness, drive improvements, and support strategic planning.

Requirements

  • At least 21 Years Old
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a directly related field or an equivalent combination of directly related experience, training, and/or education 
  • Certifications: CPR/AED for the professional rescuer
  • Be willing to obtain the following certifications within 6 months of hire:
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor
    • First Aid and CPR Instructor
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness

Summary

Shifts Needed:

As a full‑time exempt leader, this role is expected to average 40 or more hours per week. While the schedule typically follows a Monday–Friday work week, evening and weekend hours may be required based on program needs. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate these variations.
