About the Department

GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Program Specialist, the Camp Counselor position is charged with the safeguarding of all patrons that enter the confines of the City of Yukon Recreation Facilities, and is responsible for all safety protocols, procedures, and surveillance of the patrons while on and off City of Yukon property during the administration of all official programs. Under the general supervision of the Program Specialist, the Camp Counselor will design, lead, supervise, and assist with various recreational activities in varying environments with the goal of providing a safe, fun, and educational experience to all program participants. This position requires daytime and holiday work. This position will be required to assist in City of Yukon sponsored special events.

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
•Supervises camp participants and ensures their safety, development, growth, and general well-being during all official programming
•Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants
•Adheres to all established program schedules and ensures camp participants safety during periods of travel to and from program locations
•Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident and
accident reports, attendance records, and disciplinary forms
•Delivers superior customer service to all that utilize the facility while presenting a professional image and attitude
•Assists in the preparation of program areas to include the setup, cleanup, and teardown of program and facility equipment
•Maintains a safe & clean program environment both indoors and outdoors, which includes cleaning restrooms, vacuuming, picking up trash, emptying trash cans, and securing the areas during and after program operations
•Responds quickly and efficiently to emergency situations following established procedures
•Fairly enforces the rules and regulations as outlined in the Camp Counselor Handbook while cautioning participants regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards
•Maintains current knowledge of departmental programming
•This is not an all-inclusive list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities, and all staff will be required to perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•16 years of age or older
•Must have good interpersonal relationship skills
•Physical ability to participate in activities, run, climb, swim, lift, or support the weight of a child
•Must be self-motivated and be able to work as part of a team
•Ability and willingness to assume responsibility for work performed
•Provided free by the City of Yukon Parks and Recreation Department
•American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Good organizational skills, creative, outgoing, detail oriented, professional, and a self-motivator
•Previous experience in exercising judgment, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public
•Previous experience working with children in a recreational environment

While performing the duties of the position, an employee must:
•Be in good physical condition
•Be able to stand and sit for extended periods
•Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms
•Talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone
•Use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate lifesaving equipment
•Regularly lifts, pushes, or pulls persons or equipment over 25 pounds
•Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to distinguish basic colors and shapes; depth perception, peripheral vision, and have the ability to adjust focus
•Employees will regularly work under outdoor weather conditions, and are routinely exposed to the sun, and may be exposed to extreme heat and cold; and work on uneven and/or slippery surfaces
