Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, the Structural Engineer will act as the technical authority for structural engineering matters for our capital projects, modifications, inspections, maintenance and operational decision-making.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred), with Chartered/Professional Engineer status (or progress toward it).
  • 5+ years of experience in structural engineering, preferably within industrial sites, infrastructure, energy, utilities, or heavy industry.
  • Experience working in projects with significant interface responsibilities between asset owners, consultants, and contractors, is desirable.
  • Proven experience reviewing designs prepared by external engineering firms
  • Strong understanding of structural analysis principles, design review methodologies, and asset integrity management.
  • Experience with relevant codes and standards
  • Familiarity with structural inspection techniques, assessment tools, and condition rating methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of CAD and BIM models for interpretation and review (Revit, AutoCAD,etc).
  • Self-driven individual, with attention to detail and ability to execute high-quality work with limited direction

 

Job responsibilities

  • Review and approve structural engineering deliverables prepared by external engineering consultants or EPC contractors.
  • Provide owner’s engineering support for capital projects, modifications, and site upgrades, ensuring constructability, maintain ability and long-term asset integrity
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and technical evaluations for large-scale site civil elements, including earthworks, grading plans, site drainage strategy stormwater retention, erosion controls, roadways, heavy transport corridors and utility corridors
  • Support campus expansion planning by advising on site constraints, soil conditions, structural implications, and integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Overseestructural engineering in regards with building structures, equipment support structures, roof supported equipment, on-slab equipment foundations and their loading conditions
  • Evaluate structural design calculations, load assessments, drawings, specifications, and engineering reports for compliance with standards, company requirements, and operational needs.
  • Ensure that all designs meet regulatory requirements, industry standards and site-specific constraints.
  • Review contractor work packages, method statements, and construction quality documentation.
  • Perform site visits to verify that construction activities follow approved designs and specifications.
  • Support the resolution of technical queries, deviations, or non-conformances raised during construction or maintenance work.
  • Liaise between site teams and the external design consultants to ensure effective communication andtimelydecision-making.
  • Ensure accurate as-built documentation and records are maintained for all civil/structural assets.
