About the Department
TRIO Ambassadors serve as peer leaders and mentors for students participating in the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program, which supports first-generation college students, income-eligible students, and students with disabilities.
This is a year-long, paid leadership position that begins with the TRIO Summer Link Bridge Program and continues throughout the academic year (Fall and Spring semesters). Attendance and active participation in Summer Link is mandatory.
TRIO Ambassadors play a vital role in supporting incoming TRIO students by creating a welcoming, engaging, and supportive environment at BGSU. Ambassadors provide structured mentorship, maintain consistent communication with assigned mentees, and contribute to building a strong TRIO community.
Ambassadors are expected to communicate openly and professionally, promote collaboration, and serve as positive representatives of TRIO SSS and Bowling Green State University.

Position Duties
- Participate in all assigned TRIO Programs training and professional development activities
- Commit to serving as a peer mentor for first- and second-year TRIO students, beginning with Summer Link and continuing throughout the academic year
- Commit to developing positive and supportive relationships with assigned mentees
- Commit to developing a positive relationship with TRIO Programs staff and other TRIO Ambassadors
- Complete weekly reports detailing interactions with mentees
- Meet individually with the TRIO Ambassadors program coordinator, as needed
- Attend group meetings with other TRIO Ambassadors twice each month
- Plan and attend programs/events/activities as needed, in collaboration with TRIO Programs staff
- Host or assist with at least one group engagement activity per semester for assigned mentees
- Serve as a professional representative of TRIO College Programs and Bowling Green State University
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Be a full-time undergraduate student at Bowling Green State University
- Be a participant of TRIO College Programs (McNair or Student Support Services) for at least one (1) academic year
- Be a student in good academic standing with cumulative GPA of at least 2.8
- Knowledgeable about TRIO Programs
- Knowledgeable about student organizations and student support offices on campus
- Demonstrated knowledge of academic support resources
- Work well in a group setting with people of all beliefs, backgrounds, and personalities
- Demonstrate high ethical standards and strong character
- Serve as a role model and positive example of a BGSU student
- Previous leadership experience
Other Qualifications
- Must be available for and commit to in-person participation in TRIO Ambassador Orientation and Training (August 12–13) and the TRIO Summer Link Program (August 14–20); attendance is mandatory.
