Job Description

Job Summary:  

The Treasury and Accounting Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial data within the accounting system. This role supports property and corporate accounting functions by maintaining financial records, managing banking activities, and overseeing key financial processes, including account administration and management fee calculations. The Treasury and Accounting Specialist partners with internal teams to support financial operations, reporting, and compliance with company policies and procedures.

Incumbent is expected to have excellent problem solving and communication skills, possess the ability to build lasting business relationships, and exhibit professionalism, and maintain excellent attendance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet strict deadlines established by the department and management agreements
  • Maintain a strong understanding of accounting principles, including assets, liabilities, income, and expenses
  • Prepare and post journal entries accurately and timely
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and investigate variances
  • Monitor daily cash activity and identify funding needs or deficiencies
  • Initiate and process intercompany and bank transfers as needed
  • Open and close bank accounts in accordance with company policies
  • Manage bank account administration, including adding and removing authorized users and maintaining appropriate access controls
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance for all banking activities
  • Calculate and record management fees in accordance with management agreements
  • Process and coordinate payment of property taxes, insurance, audit fees, and other invoices
  • Reconcile mortgage balances to general ledger and lender statements; prepare payments as required
  • Monitor escrow accounts, including funding requirements and analysis
  • Set up and maintain recurring journal entries and transactions
  • Monitor utility and contract expenses for accuracy and consistency
  • Import and maintain budget data within the accounting system
  • Process deposits using applicable systems, including remote deposit capture
  • Support audits by preparing documentation and responding to requests
  • Assist in identifying and resolving accounting or system-related issues
  • Provide support and guidance to team members as needed
  • Participate in meetings and complete additional assignments as required                                                                                             

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Experience with accounting software (RealPage and Sage Intacct Construction experience preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of accounting experience preferred
  • Property management or real estate accounting experience preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able work with a computer for a minimum of 7 hours daily
  • Must be able to read printed materials and computer screen
  • Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate in e-mail, by phone, or in person during the course of the workday
  • Ability to perform data entry, keyboarding, and mouse functions to complete job duties timely and efficiently
  • Ability to use phone systems and office machines
