About the Department
Under direction of the Presiding Judge and City Manager, presides over the City of Bee Cave Municipal Court and administers its overall functions. Work is performed in accordance with applicable law and is subject to review by a higher court through the appeals process.
Works with Court Clerks and Municipal Court Judge to produce effective and efficient court processes and procedures.
Requires flexible schedule, including availability during nights and weekends.
Salary is based on experience and qualifications.
Position Duties
Presides over and adjudicates misdemeanor criminal, criminal traffic, city ordinance, zoning ordinance cases and city code violations.
Presides over pretrial disposition conferences, arraignments, change of plea hearings, sentencing, order to show cause hearings, motion hearings, traffic hearings, jury and non-jury trials and various other court settings as required for the City of Bee Cave.
Finds defendants “guilty” or “not guilty” in non-jury trial proceedings based upon evidence; and imposes sentencing as required.
Determines the disposition of cash bails, surety bonds, forfeitures. Orders and signs criminal arrest warrants. Ability to research case law as it applies to issues presented.
Read and familiarize oneself with the Municipal Judge’s Bench Book and Judge’s Manual.
Review court process and procedures on a regular basis to ascertain same is in compliance with laws of the State of Texas.
Assisting with the administration of the youth diversion program, including Teen Court
Working with the Presiding Judge to Develop a Mock trial Program
Attending annual judicial education seminars in compliance with TMCEC requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Knowledge: Work requires specialized knowledge of Municipal Court. Graduation from a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association is required. Must be admitted to the State Bar of Texas and licensed by the State of Texas at the time of appointment. Must maintain license in the State of Texas, in good standing, during the two-year appointment.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years experience in the practice of law with at least three (3) years in a municipal trial court room setting. Actual Municipal Court Judge experience preferred.
