The purpose of this position is to perform skilled work maintaining vehicles and equipment from various departments within the city.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all- inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Uses personal hand and power tools to perform related vehicle and equipment service and repair.
- Must be proficient with heavy duty truck diagnostics and repair to include electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Tests, services and repairs vehicles and mechanical equipment.
- Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and related parts in the performance of repair and maintenance work.
- Repairs brake, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, a/c, exhaust, axle assemblies and related systems.
- Cuts, welds and fabricate various metals and materials.
- Changes and repairs tires and tubes.
- Must be able to design and install electrical circuits for emergency lighting and radio systems that are installed in vehicles.
- Must be able to utilize and understand laptop-based computer diagnostic
- Assists with evaluation of mechanical equipment and vehicles and performs or schedules needed repairs.
- Assists with analyses and inspections of vehicles and mechanical systems to determine the most cost-effective means of maintenance, repair or replacement.
- Provides emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Specialized training in mechanics and vehicle maintenance or a closely related field.
- Three years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Applicants must possess a personal complete set of heavy equipment and light duty mechanics tools for use in vehicle and equipment repair.
- Valid MO Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brakes, tanker, and passenger endorsement (able to obtain if needed.)
- Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certification (able to obtain if needed.)
