JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Project Lead the Way Design and Modeling and Project Lead the Way Robotics, Grades 6-8
REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: valid IL Professional Educator License (PEL), middle school level with endorsement in
Science, Technology/Engineering Education, or Mathematics; Requires additional PLTW training for certification.
CLASSIFICATION: Certified
WORK YEAR: 181 Days
SALARY: Teacher Salary Schedule
EVALUATOR: Principal or designee
BASIC FUNCTION
Full-time position involving teaching duties within the Quincy Junior High School, including: PLTW-Intro to Engineering
Design & Modeling, and PLTW Automation and Robotics.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge and experience in the teaching area, especially in the field of physical science, chemical engineering, and
nanotechnology as well as design. Knowledge and experience with various computer programs preferred •Demonstrated
skills in the areas of teaching, group management, and interpersonal communication •Willingness to accept other duties as
assigned in an effort to provide a comprehensive school program, including further training in the Project Lead the Way
coursework during the summer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Instruction
1. Teach and facilitate content knowledge and skill development in one or more courses in computer aided drafting
and design, pre-engineering and general applied technology to middle school students, utilizing course of study
adopted by the Board of Education, utilizing appropriate learning activities
2. Demonstrate industrial materials, equipment, tools and processes, using standard or teacher-prepared models,
mock-ups, sketches and other instructional aids
3. Guide students in selection of appropriate elective projects or experiments
4. Instruct students in the proper use of personal protective equipment and in the use, care and safe operation of
tools, machines and equipment
5. Maintain control of storage and use of school-owned property. Make minor adjustments and request repairs to
tools and equipment as required.
6. Keep informed of the industrial community’s job entry requirements and instructs students in the rudiments of
obtaining and retaining these jobs.
7. Select and requisition instructional aids and equipment, maintain inventory records; make purchases as authorized
8. Instruct students in citizenship, respect for others, ways to be safe, and basic subject matter specified in state law
and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
9. Develop lesson plans and organize class time so that preparation, instruction, lab work, and clean-up activities can
be accomplished within the allotted time
10. Create an effective environment for child-centered learning, efficiently utilizing the available time for instruction.
11. Participate in the School Improvement Planning process as defined in NCLB
12. Continually evaluate student’s academic and social growth, readjusting teaching procedures to stimulate
continuous progress
13. Keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports
14. Communicate with parents through a variety of means, including conferences, to discuss pupil progress and
interpret the school program
15. Provide learning experiences designed to meet individual needs through individual and/or group instruction
a. Adapt, develop and use available materials and resources for students different learning styles
b. Learning experiences may include multimedia materials

16. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and
out of the classroom by providing a safe and secure environment.
a. Activities include bus, hallway/common areas, event and/or lunch supervision, and field trips
b. Carries an approved first aid kit on all scheduled field trips for emergency use
17. Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory

4. Responsibilities
a. Responsible for basic attendance accounting and other services as required
b. Ensure a comfortable room environment through an awareness of heating, lighting, ventilation and
appropriate housekeeping
c. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
d. Plan and coordinate work of aides, teacher assistants, student teachers and paraprofessionals as needed
e. Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
f. Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program
g. Provide initial care in the event of an accident or injury in or out of the classroom until the arrival of the
nurse or other emergency personnel
h. Inspect District property and observe activities on District property for unsafe conditions which may lead
to injury; correct unsafe practices and conditions; report all other potential safety hazards to supervisors.
i. Work with supervisors to develop and maintain a program of safe conditions and practices for the welfare
of the students, faculty, employees, volunteers, visitors and other invitees.
