Reports to: Sharon Hill School Principal


 


Job Summary:


 


Assist in addressing, maintaining, and improving student health in the school building.


 


Qualifications:

Duties & Responsbilities:


 



  • Prepare and maintain student health records to include individual cumulative health records for new students, immunizations data on original school entries and information from family physicians, dentists and parents/ guardians onto the health record under the direction of certified school nurse.

  • Organize, perform, and supervise state mandated health and wellness screenings for students.

  • Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff.

  • Maintain and update health emergency cards for students.

  • Maintain required documentation (daily log, monthly, and yearly report) to include health records on all students.

  • Serve as a resource for classroom teachers and the community regarding health/wellness education, growth and maturity, personal hygiene, dental care, etc.

  • Provide information and instruction on health topics as required and/or mandated.

  • Administer medication according to school district policy and as prescribed by the student’s physician.

  • Order supplies and maintain an inventory for each nurse’s office.

  • Complete and submit all reports requested by the PA Department of Health and/or the district.

  • Reports suspected cases of child abuse to the school nurse or principal.

  • Maintain communication with staff regarding the special, physical, and medical needs of students while maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Administer medication as prescribed by the student’s physician.

  • Provide first aid emergency care to students and staff.

  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized health room.

  • Maintain written and computer documentation to include daily log, monthly, and yearly report.

  • Provide yearly screenings in accordance with State Health.

  • Maintain workers compensation information for staff and maintain communication with Human Resources.

  • Communicate with students, staff, and parents by phone and mail correspondence.

  • Attend IEP meeting, SAP groups, and initiate CYS calls.

  • Maintain Medical Alerts on all students, including allergies.

  • Monitor mental health and physical well-being of students, intervention and follow-up.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Education & Experience:



  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Licensed Professional Nurse (LPN) or Professional Nurse (RN) license required

  • Valid in-person CPR & First Aid certificate

  • Prior experience in school setting desired


Pre-employment Requirements:



  • Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, FBI fingerprinting Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance

  • Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release (ACT 168)

  • School Personnel Health Record and TB test


Physical Requirements:



  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, body fluids, or disease

  • Ability to reach above and below the waist

  • Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects

  • Some stooping, bending, kneeling, and twisting of the body required

  • Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time with some walking or moving throughout the building


Level of Compensation:


 


This position's salary is determined by the collective bargaining plan for Support Staff employees. The starting salary for this position is $27.39/hour. After the completion of the 90-day probationary period, this position is eligible for a raise to bring the salary to $27.92/hour. This is a full-time, 10 month position.
