Position Summary
The Coding Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the coding team, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in the assignment of medical codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services. This position serves as the subject matter expert for the coding guidelines, payer requirements, and compliance standards, while also acting as a mentor and resource for coding staff. Analyze and monitor clinical documentation to ensure the appropriate assignment of International Classification of Disease (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Coding Systems (HCPCS) and/or Diagnostic Related Group (DRG) codes to insure data integrity and optimal reimbursement.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Proof of highest level of education completed but not less than high school education or equivalent.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent certification required.
- Monitor and report system performance issues
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports, contracts, and other legal documents
- Provide minimal leadership in committee and/or meeting functions
- Perform work of lower-level classifications of the Coding Special series
- Performs special projects
- Dedication to the development of others and willingness to coach and mentor people as necessary to promote their personal and professional growth.
- Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
- An understanding of computer systems, process design and data management.
- Must have a well-groomed, professional appearance.
- Must have the mental and physical ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to lift, carry, pull, & push 50 pounds.
- Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal fluency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of medical coding experience, with at least
- 1-2 years in a lead, supervisory, or training role.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10CM, CPT, HCPCS, and medical terminology.
- Experience with payor guidelines, coding audits, and compliance requirements
