    Agricultural Science Teacher

    Grayson County High School, Career and Technical Education Center
    Position available for the 2026-27 school year

    Qualifications:

    • Possess or qualify for Virginia Technical Professional License to teach Agricultural Science, through Virginia Department of Education; prefer teaching experience
    • Possess knowledge and skills to provide instruction in various courses within the Agricultural Science Program; prefer certifications and/or work experience in Welding, Animal Science, Natural Resources
    • Demonstrates ability to manage classroom and shop area for effective instruction and efficient program management
    • Demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and coaching students toward workforce preparation
    • Demonstrate professional and personal characteristics necessary for effective and positive interactions with students, colleagues, parents, and community

     

    Essential Functions: 

    • Deliver VDOE-approved curriculum in pathways such as Plant Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Mechanics, Horticulture, Forestry, and Environmental Natural Resources.
    • Integrate Virginia's "5 C's" (Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, and Citizenship) into daily lessons.
    • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
    • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
    • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
    • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
    • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
    • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
    • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment, maintains inventory records, and ensures equipment is in good working order. 

     

    Additional Duties 

    • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. 

     

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to work in various environments, including climate-controlled classrooms, humid greenhouses, and outdoor field conditions.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods while demonstrating mechanical or biological tasks.

       

      Salary to be determined by 2026-2027 Salary Scale
