Job Overview: 



Bellarmine Preparatory School’s Drama Director is responsible for curating and directing theatrical productions, fostering artistic growth, and promoting the values of Jesuit education through the performing arts. This role involves collaborating with students, parents, faculty, and staff to create engaging and meaningful theatrical experiences, including a fall play and a spring musical each school year.



Core Functions and Duties: 



 




  • Production Management:

    • Plan, organize, and oversee the entire production process for a fall play and a spring musical.



  • Auditions and Casting:

    • Conduct auditions, assess student talents, and make casting decisions.

    • Provide guidance and mentorship to students throughout the audition process.



  • Rehearsals:

    • Develop and implement a rehearsal schedule that accommodates students' academic commitments.

    • Instruct and guide actors in acting techniques, character development, and stage presence.



  • Collaboration and Inclusivity:

    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, encouraging the participation of students from diverse backgrounds.

    • Work closely with other departments to integrate theatrical experiences into the broader school curriculum.



  • Set Design and Technical Aspects:

    • Collaborate with set design and technical teams to create visually appealing and functional sets.

    • Oversee technical aspects, including lighting, sound, and special effects.



  • Costume and Makeup Coordination:

    • Coordinate with costume and makeup teams to ensure appropriate and well-coordinated attire for characters.

    • Manage costume fittings, alterations, and overall visual aesthetics.



  • Educational Integration:

    • Utilize drama as a means to promote critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration among students.



  • Promotion and Community Engagement:

    • Assist in promoting productions within the school community and beyond.

    • Engage with parents and the wider community to encourage attendance and support for theatrical events.
