Description
Under the direct supervision of the Fitness Coordinator and indirect supervision of the Operations Superintendent- Fitness and Member Services, the Personal Trainer is responsible for delivering and promoting personal training services that help clients improve fitness, stamina, and overall well-being.
Personal Trainers may also specialize in Adaptive (Special Population), Pre/Post Natal, Women’s / Menopause Fitness, Youth Fitness, Adult Fitness, or Sports Performance Personal Training. Personal Trainer positions are hired on an as-needed basis.
Job Duties
- Provides great customer service and creates a welcoming experience for all members and guests of the RecPlex.
- Responsible for the design of customized workout and training programs for members and guests based on their respective needs or area of specialty ensuring the proper form, technique, and progression is utilized.
- Motivates and effectively communicates with program participants through verbal and visual demonstration; monitors participants for appropriate exercise levels and adjusts workout as necessary.
- Conducts new member orientation sessions, fitness testing and assessments, advises participants of results, provides one-on-one personal training to members participating in the program, and follows-up with clients.
- Completes record keeping and schedules according to standard operating procedures, includes accurate records of client information, name, phone numbers, dates and payment.
- Works fitness floor hours as a Fitness Coach and supports the recruitment and scheduling of new clients and program participants
- Promotes a safe and clean environment and reports any issues as needed.
- Fosters a positive, team-oriented work environment by maintaining strong relationships with staff and patrons, and creating a welcoming, professional atmosphere for all participants.
- Report any emergencies to the appropriate Manager on duty immediately and complete accident reports if situation dictates.
- Attends regularly scheduled meetings and training sessions and stays up to date with industry trends and standards.
- Promotes classes and other areas of the RecPlex: pool, league sports, special events etc.
- Provides professional and helpful service when addressing the safety, welfare and concern of members, guests, and the general public.
- Adheres to all Village, RecPlex, and Department rules, regulations, policies, standard operating procedures, and guidelines
- Performs other duties and special assignments as directed within the scope of the Fitness Department.
Requirements
Physical
- Frequent public interaction and requires the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
- Primarily indoor fitness/recreation environment either in a gymnasium, studio, or pool setting with exposure to moderate noises, varying temperatures and humidity, slippery surfaces, and pool chemicals.
- Requires physical activity that includes standing for long periods of time, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, reaching, stretching, and straining, kneeling, grasping, gripping, and moderate lifting and carrying of 3-50 pounds, and visually inspecting and monitoring fitness areas.
- Direct handling of free weights and other weight lifting equipment (plate loaded and selectorized); cardiovascular equipment including stationary bicycles, treadmills, rowers, stair climbers; tools for repair and maintenance, general office and cleaning products and supplies.
Educational, Certifications and Experience
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Proven experience in personal training or related field is preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology or related field preferred.
- Current Personal Trainer Certificate from a nationally recognized association (ex. ACE, ACSM, NASM, AFAA)
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy, exercise physiology and proper progression, instructing techniques, injury prevention and safety procedures as they relate to fitness and wellness.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire clients.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
