GERNERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and in accordance with Association policies, the Lifeguard should be able to motivate others in the areas of self-awareness and self-confidence through swimming and aquatics, be able to motivate and effectively communicate with members, parents and students, and exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas.
- Prevent accidents by scanning assigned zone from bottom to top and covering z one in compliance with the 10/10 rule.
- Perform swim tests as required by association policy.
- Enforce health and safety rules and maintain emergency readiness.
- Respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing and genuine for all members and guests.
- Develop rapport and maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and other staff.
- Able to work with other staff as part of a team.
- Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Perform routine maintenance of pool, locker rooms, and surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness.
- Check pool and rescue equipment and promptly report any problems.
- Set up and put away equipment for recreational swims.
- Participation and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings is mandatory.
- Uphold the core values of the YMCA when dealing with people within the YMCA facilities and within the community.
- Work scheduled shifts. Arrangements for substitutes must be previously approved by the Aquatics Director.
