About the Organization: 



The Police Athletic League (or PAL) is New York City’s largest independent youth development organization. We operate diverse programs from Head Start, Day Car and Universal Pre-K programs; to elementary and middle school after-school programs, summer day camps and summer Playstreets. We run evening teen centers and college readiness programs, as well as youth employment and juvenile justice programs. In its over a century of service, PAL is continuing its evolution and remains a vibrant and vital New York City institution.  



 



Position Summary: 



The Head Baseball League Coach is responsible for leading a middle school baseball team by planning and delivering high-quality, age-appropriate instruction that supports player development and team success. This role emphasizes fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship while fostering a positive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate team culture for adolescent athletes. 



The ideal candidate is an experienced youth coach who understands the physical, social, and emotional needs of middle school–aged players and can serve as a strong role model on and off the field. 



Pay & Commitment:  





  • $25.00 per hour.  







  • Availability to work consistently for the full 21-week season 







  • 4-hour shifts, 2 days per week 





Where: Armory Center - Police Athletic League, Inc.



Core Responsibilities 



Coaching & Player Development 





  • Plan and lead practices and games focused on skill development, fundamentals, and game understanding 







  • Deliver instruction that is appropriate for middle school athletes with varying skill levels 







  • Promote teamwork, effort, respect, and good sportsmanship 







  • Support player confidence, growth, and enjoyment of the sport 





Team Leadership 





  • Establish clear expectations for behavior and participation 







  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive team environment 







  • Communicate effectively with players, families, and program staff 







  • Serve as the primary on-site leader during scheduled shifts 





Safety & Program Support 





  • Ensure participant safety and adherence to program policies 







  • Support setup, breakdown, and proper use of equipment 







  • Address concerns professionally and escalate when appropriate
