    Classroom Instructional Assistant (Social Skills) – Title I

    The position of a Classroom Instructional Assistant (Social Skills) – Title I will be available immediately at East Central ISD. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is until the position is filled.  

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:   Facilitates effective Social Emotional Learning (SEL) instruction through specials rotation. Maintain a highly structured and orderly environment. Work under the general supervision and support of the school administration and counselor.  

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    1. Check on students who struggle with behavior in the classroom.
    2. Work with campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured classroom environment.
    3. Provide social skills to students who struggle with behavior on campus.
    4. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside, and outside the classroom.  This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
    5. Keep the teacher informed of the special needs or problems of individual students.
    6. Teach character education and social skills to the entire student body through special’s rotation.
    7. Plan with the school counselor and assistant principal to support the social and emotional learning of students.
    8. Conduct classroom systems fidelity checks.
    9. Be a check-in/check-out mentor for students.
    10. Conduct social skills lessons with individuals and small groups of students on an as-needed basis. 
    11. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
    12. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
    13. Assist the school administration where needed.
    14. Maintain confidentiality.
    15. Perform other duties as related to the enhancement and supports of a Title 1 school-wide program.

    QUALIFICATIONS: 
    Education/Certificates:
    High school diploma or GED
    Must have one of the following:
     
    • 48 college hours with some emphasis on child growth or development or related area
    • Treasuring our paraprofessionals Certificate
     
    Valid Texas educational aide III certificate
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Ability to work well with children
    Ability to communicate effectively
    Experience:
    Some experience working with children
    Perform duties with minimum supervision  

    EQUIPMENT USED:  Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment  

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent interruptions.  Frequent standing, stooping, walking, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting.  Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.  May be required to lift and position student’s w/physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint, and assist non-ambulatory students.  Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).  Exposure to biological hazards.  Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise.    

    PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT:  187 Days                    
    SALARY:  Paraprofessional Pay Grade 201; Title 1
