    This position is for the 2026-2027 school year.

    Job Summary: Counselors provide services to students in three major areas: academic, personal/social, and career development. Counselors assist students with individual problem solving, decision making, and coping skills. While emphasis is on prevention, counselors may also deal with crisis intervention.

    Retirement: State of Alaska TRS
    Bargaining Unit: Fairbanks Education Association (FEA)
    Salary: Determined by the FEA Negotiated Agreement 
    Contract Length: Minimum of 184 days

    Job Qualifications/Requirements (please review job description for qualifications and duties of the position):

    1. Must possess or be eligible to obtain a State of Alaska Type C Special Service certificate with an endorsement in school counseling
    2. Must have recent experience at the appropriate grade level, this experience may include teaching experience, counseling, completion of a practicum, or other relevant educational or employment experiences
    3. Must be aware of regulations in effect regarding Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973/ADA relating to students with disabilities, and district procedures for referral, evaluation, and accommodation
    4. Must possess some knowledge of content, curriculum, methods and materials of grade level(s) of instructional specialty(ies)
    5. Good knowledge of child growth and development
    6. Some knowledge of school program studies related to assignments
    7. Ability to utilize multimedia and computer technology as appropriate
    8. Ability to utilize positives and effective student discipline procedures
    9. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and community members
    10. Skills in oral and written communication
    11. Excellent human relations skills
