Purpose

This internship program is designated to provide high school students with hands on exposure to community banking, customer service, and branch management, while supporting the Edison Board of Education’s initiative to create meaningful community partnerships. Interns will gain real world professional experience while contributing to Spencer Savings Bank’s legendary service culture.

 Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a meet and greet host for customers, learning how to create a welcoming environment and deliver legendary service.
• Shadow branch management to observe and understand day-to-day branch operations and leadership practices.
• Participate in team huddles to learn how to lead, motivate, and collaborate with a retail banking team.
• Assist with light administrative tasks such as filing and organizing.
• Join virtual meetings with department heads (e.g. Lending, Operations, Marketing, Treasury, Compliance) to gain exposure to multiple areas of the bank.
• Participate in community engagement activities, representing the bank.
• Travel to other branches or events may occasionally be required.

• Gain a foundational understanding of retail banking operations.
• Learn how leadership and management practices are applied in a financial services environment.
• Understand the broader functions of a financial institution by engaging with various departments.
• Experience the role of community banking in supporting local customers and organizations.

 Qualifications

• HS senior enrolled in Edison BOE
• Interest in business, finance or customer service
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Dependable, professional and eager to learn.

 Hours/Duration

• Part-time schedule: typically 4-5 hours per day as coordinated with Edison BOE and Spencer Savings Bank. Duration will be determined jointly with the school.

 Dress Attire

• Business casual is required. Examples include khakis or dress pants paired with a button-down shirt or blouse. Closed toe shoes are required. Jeans, sneakers and t-shirts are not permitted.
