Job Description

Start Date: July 30th for the 2026-2027 School Year
Position Type: Full-time, 169 days per year
Location:  McKinley Elementary School


Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the 169-day Teacher Salary Schedule or instructional support Salary schedule. Salary is based on credentials, state licensing, and experience. Salary Range $45,186-$77,720 or Hourly Rate of $20.52-$24.92

Purpose of the Job:
To lead students to the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, psychological, and physical growth and maturity. This position will have part of the day as a half-day classroom and the other half of the day serving as a life skills preschool teacher.


Minimum Requirements: 

Education: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education Preferred (May consider associate's degree in Early Childhood with experience, and attending class towards a BA)  

Experience:  3-5 years of experience preferred, and Knowledge of Teaching Strategies GOLD preferred.


Licenses/Certificates:

  • Must hold a valid Colorado Teaching License properly endorsed for preschool or work to achieve one
  • Teacher must qualify as an Early Childhood Teacher, meeting the Colorado Department of Human Services Licensing Rules and Regulations.
  • Teacher/Early Childhood Director must meet Colorado Department of Human Services Licensing Rules and Regulations for Teacher and Early Childhood Director preferred
  • Must complete First Aid and Infant, Child, and Adult CPR training within 60 days of hire and maintain as required
  • Must maintain annual necessary training as required by the Colorado Department of Human Services Licensing Rules and Regulations


Other Criteria:  

  • Criminal background check required for hire
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students, and the public.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, speak, and listen to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities.
  • Integrity, trust, and work ethic to be able to work with little supervision.
  • Competent understanding of technology to perform the job.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical
  • Ability to perform light lifting and moving of product (up to 50lbs)
  • Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of district data
  • Maintain good security practices with passwords and accounts for the various district systems and applications.
  • Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel.
  • Follow all board policies for acceptable use of district technology.
  • Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements. 
  • Must be able to care for the whole child, including changing and bathroom support as needed

Essential Duties of the Job:  (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.)

Teachers and Teacher/Directors are held to high expectations for their performance to ensure the success of the individual and the District in serving preschool students and the community. Preschool Teachers are considered licensed non-administrative professionals IF paid on the teacher’s salary schedule. Therefore, the teaching duties outlined in Article 5 of the master agreement may not apply.  Preschool teachers are required to meet preschool laws, and not all master's contracts cover this requirement. Specific training required by the Colorado Department of Human Services Licensing Rules and Regulations must also be followed.

Teachers are held to the District’s Licensed Personnel Performance Evaluation System, which consists of the State’s Quality Standards, elements, and performance indicators that fulfill the teaching responsibility. A teacher’s demonstrated effectiveness is based on the following standards: 

Standard I: Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach. The preschool Teacher is an expert in literacy and mathematics and is knowledgeable in all other content that he or she teaches (e.g., Social-Emotional, Physical, Language, and Cognitive).  


  1. Teachers provide instruction that is aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards, National Association of Education for Young Children’s Early Childhood Developmentally Appropriate Practices, The Colorado Early Learning and Developmental Guidelines, and The Quality Standards for Early Childhood; their District’s organized plan of instruction; and the individual needs of their students. 
  2. Teachers demonstrate knowledge of student literacy development in pre-reading, pre-writing, speaking, and understanding 
  3. Teachers demonstrate knowledge of mathematics and understand how to promote student development in all areas of pre-mathematics 
  4. Teachers demonstrate knowledge of the content, central concepts, tools of inquiry, and appropriate evidence-based Instruction (i.e., implementing the Creative Curriculum for Early Childhood to fidelity), reflecting the interconnectedness of content areas/disciplines. 
  5. Teachers make instruction and content relevant to students and take actions to connect students’ background and contextual knowledge with new information being taught. 

Standard II: Teachers establish a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students. 

  1. Teachers implement Developmentally Appropriate Practices and the Teaching Pyramid Framework with fidelity to foster a predictable learning environment in the classroom, where each student has positive, nurturing relationships with caring adults and peers.
  2. Teachers demonstrate a commitment to and respect for diversity while working toward common goals both within their community and as a nation.
  3. Teachers engage students as individuals with unique interests and strengths.
  4. Teachers adapt their teaching to benefit all students, including those with special needs, across a range of ability levels.
  5. Teachers provide proactive, clear, and constructive feedback to families about student progress and work collaboratively with families and significant adults in their students' lives.
  6. Teachers implement Developmentally Appropriate Practices to create a learning environment characterized by acceptable student behavior, efficient time use, and effective intervention strategies. 

Standard III: Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students. 

  1. Teachers demonstrate knowledge of current developmental science, the ways in which learning takes place, and the appropriate levels of intellectual, social, and emotional development of their students.
  2. Teachers plan and consistently deliver instruction that draws on results of student assessments (Teaching Strategies Gold), is aligned to academic standards, and advances students’ level of content knowledge and skills.
  3. Teachers demonstrate a rich knowledge of current research on effective instructional practices to meet the developmental and academic needs of their students.
  4. Teachers thoughtfully integrate and utilize appropriate available technology for themselves while keeping “screen time” for preschool students to a minimum.
  5. Teachers establish and communicate high expectations for all students and plan instruction that helps students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  6. Teachers provide students with opportunities to work in small and large groups and develop leadership qualities.
  7. Teachers communicate effectively, making learning objectives clear and providing appropriate models of language.
  8. Teachers use appropriate methods to assess what each student has learned, including formal and informal assessments, and use results to plan further instruction. 

Standard IV: Teachers reflect on their practice. 

  1. Teachers demonstrate through lesson planning and classroom implementation. They analyze student learning, development, and growth and apply what they learn to improve their practice.
  2. Teachers link professional growth to their professional goals.
  3. Teachers are able to respond to a complex, dynamic preschool environment. 

Standard V: Teachers demonstrate leadership. 

  1. Teachers demonstrate leadership in their schools and through the Consolidated Early Childhood Action Team of the ECHO and Family Center Early Childhood Council.
  2. Teachers contribute knowledge and skills to educational practices and the teaching profession.
  3. Teachers advocate for schools, preschool students, and their families, partnering with students, families, and communities as appropriate.
  4. Teachers demonstrate high ethical standards. 


Skills, Knowledge, Equipment & Other: 


Computer hardware and software, technology related to assignment; typical office machines such as copiers, faxes, phones; Typical classroom equipment, including technology tools such as digital projectors, calculators, “smart” boards, etc.

Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a school setting.  Travel from site to site may occasionally; be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges is generally quiet to occasional increases when working events or with equipment. Must be able to work in person.


Mental Functions:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze and compute.  Frequently required to compare, communicate, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, and compile.  Occasionally required to copy, synthesize, and negotiate.
