Are you experienced in terrestrial ecology and environmental impact assessments? Are you passionate about biodiversity net gain? Have you got experience working on infrastructure projects? Then, this is the place to create the solutions the world needs today to enable a better tomorrow.

Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow

To enhance our specialist services support, we are looking for a Nature & Climate Advisor to join us. Working on infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland, you’ll join a small but growing sustainability team supporting the delivery of environmental issues.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Working with our engineering teams to integrate ecological and wider environmental best practice, including nature-based solutions into major energy and infrastructure projects in the UK and Ireland
  • Supporting the environmental/sustainability screening of projects to identify risks and opportunities
  • Providing specialist advice and support to project teams on ecology & environmental issues
  • Reviewing Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and advising design teams and clients on project integration
  • Working with COWI's network of Biodiversity Champions to share learning and best practice
  • Supporting internal training initiatives around nature-based solutions
  • Supporting work within the wider Sustainability team as required

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.

The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. COWI will encourage you to avoid being set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you’ll have:

  • A degree in Ecology, Environmental Impact Assessments or a similar topic
  • Have experience of working on large infrastructure projects and dealing with clients, regulators and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of terrestrial and freshwater UK habitats and the challenges faced in a changing climate
  • Preferably have experience of working in the Scottish Highlands or similar habitats
  • Good UK terrestrial ecology experience and a broad knowledge of environmental issues related to infrastructure projects
  • Hold a professional membership of CIEEM
  • Knowledge of UK & Ireland ecology legislation and terrestrial habitat management techniques
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience in using the DEFRA Statutory Biodiversity Net Gain Metric
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills

A place to work and so much more.
At COWI, we work together with our customers to shape a sustainable and liveable world. We do it by applying our knowledge and curiosity – and sometimes even our courage – to create the solutions the world needs today to enable a better tomorrow. That is why we say no to fossil-based projects and aspire to have 100 per cent of our revenue come from activities that move our customers towards sustainability. We value differences and development and cultivate an environment of belonging and having fun, because that is what brings out the best in you, at work and at home.

With offices primarily located in Scandinavia, the UK, North America, and India, we are currently 7,300 people who bring their expertise in engineering, architecture, energy, and environment into play.

What we also offer:
To us, a fair reward is more than a competitive salary. We want to take care of our people professionally and personally as well.

Some of our benefits include:

  • 28 days' holiday plus all UK bank and public holiday
  • Formalised development plans and yearly promotion opportunities
  • Private health care, for you and your immediate dependents
