Job Description

Employment Type:  Full-Time

Reports to:  VP of Finance 

Supervisory Duties: Yes 

 

Direct the activities of all payroll staff, developing and monitoring all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s payroll processing objectives. 

 

Responsibilities / Essential Functions 

  • Entering new hires as well as maintaining current information for all union and non union employees in the business system, including address & related contact information, exemptions, rates, local union, etc.  Coordinates with Project Managers to gather all information needed to fulfill a project's Certified Payroll requirements.   
  • Enter new hires into both E-Verify, and applicable state systems. 
  • Reponsible for trouble-shooting & resolving all issues related to payroll; including placing stop payments on lost paychecks and issuing replacement paychecks, fixing incorrect wage and/or benefit rates, investigating incorrect hours worked. 
  • Responsible for reviewing the weekly payroll for all union & non-union employees.  
  • Filing federal and state taxes on weekly/monthly basis. 
  • Entering updates to union pay tables. 
  • Setting up MOF and Unified Trust projects to create reports. 
  • Process verifications of employment. 
  • Weekly submission of 401K and 529 contributions. 
  • Assist in administration of 401K and ESOP. 
  • Perform analysis of project labor rates and assist with owner labor rate negotiations as needed. 
  • Support audits (internal, external and regulatory) and respond to inquiries regarding payroll data. 
  • Train and supervise payroll staff, providing guidance and professional development as needed. 
  • Maintain strong internal controls within payroll department and continuously evaluate processes, implementing improvements when necessary.

Required Experience  

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • Ten plus years of payroll experience, with at least five years in a supervisory or management role. 
  • Experience in a construction environment is a plus. 
  • Sage300 or CMiC experience is a plus.
