Job Description

Program: Clarke Thomas | 121 Hellgate Circle, Wards Island, Manhattan, NY 10035 

What You'll Do

As a Safety Officer, you'll help maintain a safe and secure environment at one of our transitional housing shelters that is located on Wards Island and provides temporary housing for men living with diagnosed mental illnesses. You'll be one of the first contacts with our residents when they enter one of our facilities. In addition to ensuring residents' safety, you'll help our residents feel welcome and set the tone for their stay. It is critical that you are alert, vigilant, and courteous to all residents and guests. Your responsibilities will include patrolling the facility and outside grounds, ensuring residents and guests are properly signed in, escorting visitors to proper destinations, conducting safety inspections, maintaining accurate documentation, and preparing incident reports when necessary.  

You’re a great fit for this role if you have:

  • New York State security guard license.

  • FDNY F-02 must be obtained within 30 days of hire, if not already possessed.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent OR equivalent experience and skills.

  • One year of security experience, preferably in homeless services.

  • Work experience in residential facilities.

  • Experience and capacity to work with people experiencing homelessness or other disadvantaged people.

  • Strong relationship and customer service skills.

  • Computer literacy with Microsoft applications.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

  • Ability to provide night and weekend coverage as needed.

Compensation
 
Actual compensation will not be less than the applicable minimum wage, prevailing wage, or exempt salary requirements under federal, state, and local laws.
