The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at The University of the South, commonly known as Sewanee, invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics position beginning August 2026.
The department is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching within a liberal arts environment, meaningful faculty scholarship, close student mentorship, and active engagement in the broader university community.

Position Duties
Primary responsibilities include:
Teaching three mathematics courses per semester (3/3 teaching load)
Teaching across the undergraduate mathematics curriculum
Additional expectations include:
Engaging in scholarship appropriate to a liberal arts setting
Providing close mentorship to undergraduate students
Participating actively in the broader academic community
Minimum Qualifications
A successful candidate will:
Hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics (required)
Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching
Show the ability to teach across the undergraduate mathematics curriculum
Maintain a scholarship appropriate to a liberal arts institution
Value student mentorship and faculty-student collaboration
Engage constructively in departmental and university life
