Job Description


Job Title: Shipping/Receiving Inspector  

Department: Quality

Reports to: Quality Supervisor

Accountability: This role oversees receiving inspection, verifies the accuracy and condition of picked and packed orders, and ensures that all shipments comply with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements. The Shipping Inspector works closely with Shipping/Receiving, Production, Purchasing and Quality personnel to prevent defects from entering or leaving the facility.

Primary Duties:

Receiving Inspection 

  • Perform incoming material inspections according to established procedures, drawings, and specifications.
    • Verify supplier documentation, certifications, and labeling for accuracy and completeness.
    • Identify, segregate, and document nonconforming material; initiate MRRs as required.
    • Collaborate with Purchasing and Quality to resolve supplier issues and drive corrective actions.

Shipping & Order Fulfillment Quality

  • Inspect picked orders to ensure correct items, quantities, and lot/serial numbers.
  • Verify packaging compliance, including protection, labeling, and documentation requirements.
  • Conduct final inspections on outbound shipments to ensure accuracy and damage-free condition.
  • Confirm that special customer instructions or regulatory requirements are followed (e.g., hazmat, international shipments).

Process Audits & Compliance

  • Perform routine layered process audits of shipping, receiving, and assembly processes to ensure adherence to work instructions.
  • Maintain inspection records, logs, and documentation with high levels of accuracy 
  • Support internal and external audits by providing objective evidence of compliance.
  • Recommend and assist in implementing improvements to reduce errors, rework, or customer complaints.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Work with Shipping and Receiving to train team members in proper inspection, packaging, and documentation practices.
  • Escalate quality issues promptly and participate in root cause investigations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within Operations.
  • Assist Quality Supervisor with special projects as assigned.

 Requirements: 

  • High School Graduate or equivalent GED; Associate degree or higher a plus
  • Two or more years of experience in manufacturing quality preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to read and interpret quality & production documents and/or drawings 
  • Basic mathematical computation & computer skills 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamics NAV a plus
  • Ability to regularly lift and move up to 25lbs. and occasionally up to 50lbs. 
  • Tolerance for long periods of standing, squatting, stooping and bending 
  • Visual requirements include close/color vision, depth perception & ability to focus 
  • General knowledge of workplace safety & quality standards
  • Strong attention to detail & focus on organization
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Work Environment 

  • Exposure to chemicals (See MSDS) 
  • Machinery, Assembly and Warehouse operations
  • Use of protective clothing and equipment as required 
  • Dust and noise present
