What We Offer:

Job Summary: The primary purpose of a Youth Sports Coach is to instruct and guide young athletes in specific sports (ex. Tennis, Basketball, etc). Responsibilities include teaching fundamental skills, developing practice plans, organizing training sessions, and overseeing team activities. The goal is to promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love for sport among youth participants.
Position Duties
- Represent the City of Oconomowoc and its philosophy of recreation by providing a positive experience, teaching sportsmanship, and creating a non-threatening learning environment.
- Assist in developing daily instructional lesson plans.
- Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
- Teach program concepts while emphasizing the department's philosophy.
- Maintain open communication with parents, players, the coordinator, and Recreation Department staff.
- Assist the coordinator in overseeing team practices and games.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a high school junior or senior, or an adult.
- Demonstrated expertise in the sport being taught.
- Relevant experience working with youths and adults in a recreational setting.
- Interest in the broad field of recreation, including physical activities, sports, or athletics.
Other Qualifications
Knowledge:
- Understanding of the sport's rules, techniques, and strategies.
- Knowledge of basic first aid and safety protocols.
- Awareness of child development and psychology.
- Familiarity with teaching methods and coaching principles.
- Knowledge of sportsmanship and ethical behavior in sports.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with youth, parents, and staff.
