We’re looking for a Director, Enterprise Architecture & Data Intelligence to join the MCAN’s Information Technology Team.
 
This job posting is a replacement role, and we are seeking to appoint a new team member to fill this existing position. The successful candidate will be expected to continue and build on the important work and responsibilities associated with this role, ensuring continuity and ongoing contribution to our team’s objectives.

Job summary

The Director, Enterprise Architecture & Data Intelligence provides enterprisewide leadership over MCANs technology architecture and data intelligence foundations. This role ensures that business, application, data, integration, analytics, and AI capabilities are intentionally designed, wellgoverned, and aligned with business strategy, regulatory expectations, and longterm sustainability.

Acting as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, this role translates business priorities into clear architecture direction, governs key design decisions, and ensures that investments in data, analytics, and AI deliver meaningful, trusted, and scalable outcomes across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide enterprise architecture leadership across business, application, data, integration, analytics, and intelligence domains
  • Define and maintain enterprise architecture principles, standards, roadmaps, and reference architectures
  • Act as the architectural authority for initiatives that have enterprisewide impact on risk, scalability, cost, or sustainability
  • Establish and govern the enterprise data and intelligence architecture, including reporting, analytics, and AIenabled decision capabilities
  • Ensure data and intelligence solutions are scalable, reusable, interoperable, and aligned to business needs
  • Guide the architectural integration of analytics and AI into core business processes
  • Define architectural guardrails for the responsible, secure, and sustainable use of AI and advanced analytics
  • Enable reuse of approved platforms and technologies while reducing fragmentation and unmanaged risk
  • Translate business strategy into actionable architecture and data intelligence direction
  • Provide enterpriselevel impact, dependency, and risk analysis for major initiatives and platform decisions
  • Advise senior leadership on architectural implications of growth, regulatory change, and operating model evolution
  • Identify and assess emerging technologies and data capabilities relevant to the organization’s strategy
  • Create safe architectural pathways for experimentation, pilots, and proofofvalue initiatives
  • Balance innovation with architectural discipline, compliance, and operational resilience
  • Chair and participate in architecture governance forums to review and shape solution designs
  • Manage architecture exceptions, tradeoffs, and technical debt decisions
  • Ensure architectural consistency across portfolios, platforms, and delivery teams
  • Provide leadership and direction to enterprise architects and senior technical contributors
  • Partner closely with IT, Risk, Compliance, and Business leaders to drive alignment and shared outcomes
  • Maintains hands-on involvement in cloud architecture, AI/ML, APIs and data platforms.
  • Support regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and strong governance practices (e.g., OSFI and related standards)
  • Contribute to IT operational oversight, performance metrics, and vendor management as required

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree considered an asset)
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in enterprise architecture, technology strategy, or senior IT leadership roles
  • 8+ years of experience designing and governing enterprisescale technology and data architectures
  • Ongoing informal and professional education in areas such as enterprise architecture, data platforms, analytics, AI, cloud technologies, and emerging technology trends
  • Architecture or technology certifications (e.g., TOGAF, cloud architecture certifications, data/analytics certifications) are an asset but not mandatory
  • Demonstrated experience operating in complex, regulated environments (financial services experience is a strong asset)
  • Proven experience acting as a strategic advisor to senior leaders and executives
  • Experience leading and influencing senior technical professionals and crossfunctional teams
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to connect technology decisions to business outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex architectural concepts in clear, practical business language
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority and build alignment across diverse stakeholder groups.
