Title: 0.5 FTE Reading Specialist
Position Summary: Wayland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Reading Specialist to join our team. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of our youngest learners.
Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to):
- Supports students in grades K–4 in building strong foundational reading skills, fluency, and comprehension.
- Provides both push-in and pull-out instruction, working in close collaboration with classroom educators, multilingual educators, and special educators to address the diverse needs of learners.
- Uses data-informed instruction and evidence-based practices to ensure every child has access to equitable, engaging, and joyful literacy experiences.
- Apply expert knowledge of reading instruction and evidence-based practices.
- Support classroom teachers with small-group instruction and targeted intervention.
- Use assessment data to inform instructional decisions and adjust practices to meet diverse student needs.
- Choose and implement appropriate decodable texts to strengthen foundational skills.
- Promote literacy instruction that is inclusive, equitable, and responsive to students’ cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Coach or support classroom teachers in effective literacy practices.
Qualifications and Requirement:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Reading or Literacy preferred.
- Experience: Recent, supervised experience within the last five years as a teacher, student teacher, intern, or apprentice at the elementary level.
- Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- DESE Licensure: Massachusetts Reading Specialist licensure required or in process.
SEI Endorsement: Evidence of Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement is mandatory.
Salary Range: Commensurate with the WEA Unit A Salary Scale Example: Master’s through Master’s +30 range $95,754 - $126,651
Work Schedule: 2026–2027 School Year; school-year schedule in alignment with the WEA contract Unit A
