Job Description

Position Summary:



The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, assembling, packaging and sterilizing all instruments and equipment from all areas of the health care system and facilitate the transporting of sterile instruments to the sterile storage areas according to each day’s surgical schedule.  This includes the OR, Outpatient Surgery, L&D, ED, Urgent Care, Family Health Clinic and all other inter-departments to provide sterile instrumentation for daily operations.



Education:



High School graduate or equivalent.  One year of satisfactory sterile processing experience; demonstrate competency in all areas of sterile processing operations.



Training and Experience:



1. Successful completion of SPD training.



2. Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or transfer to department:



· Decontamination of surgical instruments



· Assembly of instrument sets



· Sterilization of surgical instruments and instrument sets



· Re-shelving of instruments and instrument sets 



· Maintain instrument stock per levels
