Patriot has an opening for a Soils Lab Technician. The ideal candidate will have strong work ethic, desire to learn and a passion for being part of a collaborate team that measures and analyzes samples for engineering design related to construction projects. This position will be responsible for performing all relevant tests as accurately as possible and generate data as per test requirements and maintain scrupulous records. The laboratory technician shall also be responsible in assisting the laboratory supervisor in calibrating the lab and field-testing equipment. The data or information collected from the testing is utilized to enhance the safety of construction projects.
Essential Functions:
• Work with soil, rock, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete specimens.
• Attention to detail, including the ability to distinguish colors and shades in soil descriptions, utilize small and delicate laboratory equipment, and follow the test procedures required.
• Must be able to carry out verbal and written instructions effectively, retrieve and interpret information from technical manuals, as well as work with numbers, including mathematical calculations involving percentages, fractions, and decimals. Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Perform all testing accurately as described in the testing standards ASTM and AASHTO.
• Possess communication skills to discuss projects with co-workers, managers, and engineers.
• Perform a wide range of physical activities including sustained walking, bending, twisting, standing, reaching, and performing medium to heavy work including occasionally lifting 40 pounds or more.
