Summary:
The Director of Manufacturing is responsible for leading and optimizing manufacturing operations within a high-mix, high-reliability Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) environment. This role drives operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement through strong servant leadership, hands-on engagement, and deployment of Lean manufacturing principles. The Director ensures safe, efficient, and scalable production while building trust, developing talent, and aligning manufacturing performance with business objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manufacturing & Operations Leadership
- Lead end-to-end manufacturing operations in a contract manufacturing (EMS) environment, with a strong emphasis on SMT (Surface Mount Technology) processes. Ensure consistent delivery of safety, quality, cost, delivery, and productivity objectives.
- Maintain a hands-on leadership presence on the production floor to support teams and remove operational barriers.
Operational Excellence & Lean Deployment
- Champion operational excellence through the deployment of Lean manufacturing tools and methodologies (e.g., standard work, value stream mapping, 5S, Kaizen, problem-solving).
- Serve as a mentor and coach to leadership teams, driving a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Establish and monitor KPIs, using data to drive root-cause analysis and sustainable improvements.
Leadership & Culture
- Lead with a servant-leadership mindset, fostering trust, engagement, and collaboration across all levels of the organization.
- Develop and coach manufacturing leaders and teams to build strong succession pipelines and organizational capability.
- Promote a culture of respect, ownership, and transparent communication.
Customer Focus (Internal & External)
- Act as a key interface for internal stakeholders and external customers to ensure alignment on expectations, priorities, and execution.
- Drive customer satisfaction through reliable execution, responsiveness, and continuous improvement in quality and delivery performance.
- Support customer audits, business reviews, and operational readiness for new programs and transitions.
Continuous Improvement & Change Management
- Lead transformation initiatives to improve scalability, efficiency, and flexibility in a high-mix manufacturing environment.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management to optimize manufacturing outcomes.
