Enso Village is a Zen-inspired community with a focus on mindful aging, the joys of nature, sustainability and contemplative life and care for adults 60+. Enso Village is a collaborative endeavor between the Kendal Corporation—an esteemed, nationally recognized leader in senior living guided by the Quaker values of its founders—and the San Francisco Zen Center, one of the first Zen Buddhist organizations in the US, founded by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi.

The Spiritual Life Coordinator has devoted time to their inner life, and their outer life reflects presence, compassion, non-judgment, and kind speech. You are grounded, attentive, and able to meet people where they are in moments of meaning, transition, and loss.

The Role
In this role, you partner closely with the Director of Spiritual Life and spiritual teachers in residence to cultivate and advance a spiritual life program that is welcoming, inclusive, and grounded in contemplative care.
You exercise independent judgment in coordinating and shaping a dynamic schedule that includes zazen, meditation opportunities, ceremonies, seasonal observances, gatherings, and educational offerings. You also provide oversight of volunteer engagement and support the mindful stewardship of shared spiritual spaces and grounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the Director of Spiritual Life and resident spiritual leaders to design and facilitate zazen and other meditation opportunities, ceremonies, and gatherings that reflect the contemplative spirit of the community.
- Applies knowledge of pastoral care principles, including counseling and chaplaincy practices, to support residents and team members.
- Participates in ongoing professional development and monthly training with the Director of Spiritual Life.
- Maintains regular communication with the Director of Spiritual Life to ensure continuity, alignment, and effectiveness of spiritual care services.
- Oversees the preparation and readiness of the Zendo and other spiritual spaces, ensuring they are welcoming, functional, and responsive to diverse needs.
- Coordinates and supports all Spiritual Life events in partnership with the Director of Spiritual Life.
- Independently organizes talks, classes, and gatherings, including identifying facilitators, managing logistics, and preparing spaces.
- Provides guidance and orientation to residents and team members exploring contemplative practice or spiritual engagement.
- Serves as a key liaison for spiritual teachers and leaders in residence, ensuring their successful integration into community programming.
- Develops, maintains, and communicates a comprehensive schedule of spiritual life activities, utilizing appropriate tools and platforms (e.g., Word, Canva, web-based applications).
- Ensures spiritual spaces are accessible while balancing the need for quiet reflection and personal practice.
- Oversees the care, presentation, and maintenance of spiritual environments, including monitoring supplies and maintaining altars and related elements.
- Partners with the Director of Spiritual Life in budget planning, expense tracking, and resource allocation.
- Designs opportunities for resident engagement in the care of shared spaces as a form of meaningful participation.
- Contributes to broader Spiritual Life initiatives, including Mindful Community Trainings and cultural programming aligned with Enso Village Guiding Principles.
- Provides thoughtful recommendations to support an inclusive environment that honors diverse beliefs, values, and traditions.
- Facilitates opportunities for spiritual exploration both on and off campus.
- Collaborates cross-functionally with residents and team members across departments.
- Leads volunteer coordination efforts and develops meaningful service opportunities.
- Oversees volunteer programs supporting the care of spiritual spaces and grounds, fostering a sense of purpose and community.
- Participates in an on-call rotation, exercising discretion and sound judgment in providing spiritual support during end-of-life situations and acute emotional or spiritual crises.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Psychology, Religious Studies, or a related field required; Master’s degree or Chaplain CPE preferred.
- Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in spiritual care, chaplaincy, community leadership, or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to independently support individuals from diverse spiritual, religious, and non-religious backgrounds.
- Experience in memory care, assisted living, and/or senior living environments.
- Experience leading and managing volunteer programs.
- Strong foundation in contemplative practices (meditation, reflection, prayer, or similar disciplines).
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility (DEIBA).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Ability to work onsite regularly in Healdsburg, CA.
- Flexibility to work a Tuesday–Saturday or Sunday–Thursday schedule, including bi-weekly evening coverage and participation in an on-call rotation, based on operational needs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods, with occasional standing and walking.
- Capability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Adequate visual acuity for working at a computer and managing data with attention to detail.

Compensation & Benefits:
Enso Village is committed to equal pay and transparency. The annual base salary range for this position is $80,000-$90,000. Compensation is based on experience, education, skills, and business considerations.
